Travel & Destination

Beyond the property

A stay doesn’t end at the hotel doors. What a guest actually remembers might be paddling out at first light on Portugal’s coast, riding across a wine estate as the sun drops, or getting pulled into the noise and color of a souk in Tunis, as much as anything that happened inside the property. For hotels and resorts, I turn that wider experience into travel photography: images for a website or social feed that show what lies beyond the property, and make someone want to be there.

A great image doesn’t simply happen. It’s planned for. My studio casts people who read as guests and works through wardrobe and styling with them, and I choose exactly where in the destination the story unfolds: the swell off a surf break, a vineyard trail on horseback, the honey-colored streets of an old Mediterranean town, a bazaar thick with spice and noise. Each setup is timed around the light that place needs, and the aim is an image that reads as lived-in rather than performed: two people genuinely present somewhere, not standing in for a photograph.

The destination carries as much of the story as the people in it. I’m not chasing the postcard version of a place. I want what’s actually there once you look past the obvious shot. What comes out of it is destination photography that makes someone picture themselves there, with the destination doing as much of the work as the property itself.
